Sweetness Follows
A new play by Neil Sheppeck
Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2002, The Gilded Balloon
World Premiere

Renowned for their adaptations of Shakespeare (which re-invent the plays in a modern setting whilst staying faithful to the original text) LOVE&MADNESS this year also turn their attention to this new play from their founder Neil Sheppeck (see also Othello page at this years festival).

Sweetness Follows is a dark comedy which juggles issues of love, death, loss and a trout called Annabella! The day after their parent’s funeral, Dan and Claire begin to come to terms with their loss and tentatively attempt to fill the void. As they discuss the way their lives have changed forever they find themselves becoming increasingly frank with one another.

Born in Yorkshire and bred in Norfolk, the 26 year old Sheppeck has spent the last 4 years since graduating from London’s prestigious Guildhall school of music and drama working as a professional actor for companies such as Northern Broadsides and the National Theatre Studio.

Sweetness Follows is his first work as a play-write. ‘All works of fiction come from somewhere inside or within the writers heart and imagination, however that’s where the biographical ends. My own parents are very much alive and despite being raised in Norfolk I stress that I have never slept with my sister’!

‘...extremely powerful...serious and shocking. The audience cannot help but be shaken.’
