PROJECT X will be devised by the ensemble whilst working on the other 3 plays.
4 hours a week will be devoted to this project whilst rehearsing. During this embryonic period, research, improvisation, and exploritory work undertaken on the other 3 plays, will be developed further. There will also be a firm focus on current affairs and journalism related to the project.
When the rehearsal period finishes for Macbeth and Ajax, the ensemble will have decided on the format for the piece. It could be traditionally dramatic, verbatum, physical, dance, caberet, prominade or a new unique style of theatre of their own.
4 of the ensemble will then break off to rehearse A Skull in Connemara, whilst the remainer work on developing their work, under the mentorship of Neil Sheppeck, Jack Shepherd, and Catriona Craig, into an entertaining, accutely contemporary, full piece of theatre - the title of which will be decided on before the opening performance.
Project X promices to be the most exciting experience of the season.
Reviews
" Based on a short storry by narrator Brendan Wyer and directed by another chorus member Matthew Sim, it's an ebullient tale of an unremarkable postman who has somehow managed to to get to 33 without noticing either the progress of time or the ineluctable facts of death. Played with admirable, big-eyed blankness by John Giles, Ronnie is shaken out of his philosophical topor by a girl he takes a shine to, and his first row in a local pub. But the cause of his complete emotional nullity spills out into the realms of utter, rather winning ridiculousness: a rogue group of artificially intelligent rodents have escaped the lab and had rather too much to do with Ronnie's unsung life to date. The joys of this pocket-sized play are all in its delivery - the cunning use of cash-strapped theatre techniques, its taut choreography and truly wonderful, kazoo-inspired musicality. Dressing the cast in doctor's whites also cleverly raises the idea that what we are witnessing is one man's decent into his own psychosis. ... staged in tandem with one of the other three plays the company are currently performing at the Riverside, it would prove a deliciously impish treat.
